Griseofulvin Indications

Indications

Ringworm infections of the skin, hair, and nails.

Griseofulvin Dosage and Administration

Adult

500mg daily; max 1g daily.

Children

30–50lbs: 125–250mg daily. Over 50lbs: 250–500mg daily.

Griseofulvin Contraindications

Contraindications

Porphyria. Hepatocellular failure. Pregnancy.

Warnings/Precautions

Continue therapy until infection is eradicated. Periodic monitoring of renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic functions. Discontinue if granulocytopenia occurs. Penicillin sensitivity. Avoid exposure to sunlight or UV light. Nursing mothers.

Antagonizes oral contraceptives, oral anticoagulants. Antagonized by barbiturates.

Adverse Reactions

Oral thrush, GI distress, dizziness, confusion, peripheral neuritis, photosensitivity, granulocytopenia, leukopenia, proteinuria, lupus-like syndrome.
